About Kothimora & Chhepu

Kothimora refers to the khukuri with scabbard especially decorated from silver with top quality velvet as background but this special khukuri reproduced has red ganjawal water buffalo leather molded with 50 gm pure silver with the design of "Chhepu" and beautiful "Chhape with beautiful flower carvings".

Chhepu “ the serpent god is highly revered in Nepalese culture holding the topmost position at the top- front of temple doors as blessed by The great saint from China(Tibet) “Mahamanjushree”. It was because of his wisdom and divine power that he made Kathmandu a living place with the passage of water from the Chobhar gorge with his holy swords. Paying due respect for his holy deeds GGK molded “Chhepu” at the chhape for more traditional folklores. . “Kothimoras” are special khukuris and about 50 gm of pure silver has made this a special beauty with the old natures of khukuris bring brought in modern reproduction.

About khukuri history

Originally this khukuri was manufactured in 1916. Kothimoras were presented as gifts for departing army officers recognizing their contributions and deeds. A retired officer can get this khukuri from his regiment as memento. GGK has reproduced this khukuri keeping in mind the design, detail and art within the blade. The scabbard designed by our own goldsmith reflects the high-quality craftsmanship and is amazing with beautiful patterns mounted on it depicting cultural and traditional values.

After the Second World War the battalion armies who had displayed their bravery were used to be rewarded with this khukuri like an honorary medal. During those days the battalion used to make Kothimora khukuri making it an excellent gift while bidding them farewell for their special contributions. The colors of the respective regiment are kept as background using high-quality velvet. A Nepali bridegroom can also be seen wearing Kothimora Khukuri as a matter of pride during the wedding ceremony.
