We normally use 5160 high carbon steel. All steel have some amount of carbon. It is the most important hardening element, but as it is added it can reduce the toughness of the material. Carbon reduces the amount that the blade will wear over time. So, the amount of carbon in the blade tells you a lot about the quality of the steel. Carbon steels can be further categorized into three groups depending on their carbon content:
No, not all the knives we have are full tang. We also have rat tail/stick tang knives.
We have the following two types of blade handle available.
Full Tang
The first type is the full tang, which extends the entire length and width of the handle.
Rat Tail/Stick Tang
A rat tail tang is the other type. Essentially, this is a tang that does not cover the entire length & width of the handle. You might sometimes hear a rat tail tang referred to as a stick tang.
The shining process of handling takes place at the end of the kukri making process after the blade is sharpened and the handle is fixed to the kukri. We apply a thin layer of buffing soap to the handle briskly & polish it on the buffing wheel. The process is repeated continuously until the desired shine is obtained.
Any well used blade will develop unsightly scratch over time. To maintain the beautiful shine of the blade over time it can be lightly sanded.
We recommended using a sand paper with a grit of 180 to gently remove any scratches and give luxurious smoothness to the blade.
